What Started Out As A Lunch Table Discussion, Quickly Turned Into A Passion To Save The Depot!

Why restore an old deteriorated depot? The answer comes from our community's desire to preserve its rich history and great heritage. Unlike many forgotten old buildings that exist in towns across America, railroad depots hold a special place in the memories and experiences of the people that used them. Railroad depots were often places where the lives or peole changed or significant events occured. Railroad depots also represented significant milestones in the development and growth of a town. The coming of a new railroad and the construction ofa new depot often meant the expansion of trade and commerce for the region and opportunities for convenient travel by train. The historic railroad depot in Hudson bears silent witness to the evolution of its hometown, a lonely reminder of the railroads that snaked up and down the state. The depot served the Hudson community and the surrounding area until 1960. Once a common sight in most communities, depots have become particularly prone to demolition. This one must be saved from the wrecking ball! |

The committe involved in the plans for the restoration of the depot endeavor to recreate, wherever possible, the appearance of the depot as it existed during its heyday in the late 1800's and early 1900's. It's historic significance to our community is undeniable, and represents the role that railroads played in the development of Hudson. As citizens, we must recognize its past value and its importance to future generations of Hudson residents. The goal is to establish the Hudson Railroad Station No. 98 as a focal point for community involvement. |
